There are two ways to vote early in Texas: in person or by mail. Either option will eliminate waiting in long lines on election day. Early voting generally begins 17 days before an election and ends 4 days before. If the 17th day before election day happens to land on a weekend, then early voting begins the following Monday.
Registered voters may vote early at a convenient polling location within their political subdivision. Unlike early voting by mail, you do not need to state a reason for voting early in person. Polling locations may vary from election to election and will be posted.
Pursuant to Section 63.0013, Election Code, an election officer may give voting order priority to individuals with a mobility problem that substantially impairs the person's ability to move around. A person assisting an individual with a mobility problem may also, at the individual's request, be given voting order priority. Disabilities and conditions that may qualify you for voting order priority include paralysis, lung disease, the use of portable oxygen, cardiac deficiency, severe limitation in the ability to walk due to arthritic, neurological, or orthopedic condition, wheelchair confinement, arthritis, foot disorder, the inability to walk 200 feet without stopping to rest, or us of a brace, cane, crutch, or other assistive device.
This service is available to any voter who has difficulty walking or standing for long periods. Please call ahead to notify the early voting clerk that you want to vote from your car. The election official will bring your ballot to your car outside the polling location.
Voting by mail has been available to elderly voters and voters with physical disabilities in Texas for decades.
Applications for a ballot by mail must be submitted to the Bandera County Elections Department no earlier than 2 months before Election Day and no later than 1 week before. Application expires Dec. 31st of each year and will need to be completed annually.
You may vote by mail if you are:
- 65 years of age or older on Election Day
- Expected to be away from your county on Election Day and during early voting
- Sick or disabled
- Confinement in jail/involuntary civil commitment
- Expected to give birth
